Hello everyone! My name is Priya Shah, and I am excited to join the Baltimore Hunger Project as the new Public Health intern! I’m currently pursuing a Master of Public Health (MPH) in Public Health Practice & Policy at the University of Maryland, College Park. I also hold a Bachelor of Science in Public Health Science, which I completed earlier this year. Throughout my academic journey, I’ve been passionate about public health, health equity, and working to address social determinants of health. I am excited to combine my interests with meaningful, hands-on work in the community.
At the Baltimore Hunger Project, I will be working on communications, marketing, and public health research focused on food safety. Ensuring that the food provided to children and families is not only nutritious but also safe is essential to reducing health disparities in our community. I’ll be developing educational materials, organizing events, and helping conduct workshops to raise awareness about food safety practices and promote healthy nutrition. I’ll also support the organization’s food safety protocols and engage with community members to increase outreach and impact.
As a Baltimore native my involvement with this project stems from my original proposal, which highlighted the need for enhanced food safety measures and community education in Baltimore, especially given that nearly 1 in 8 residents experience food insecurity. The initiative I’m working on is about more than just providing meals; it’s about empowering families with knowledge and tools to make informed decisions about their food. I’m committed to helping reduce health disparities and creating sustainable solutions to food insecurity in our city.
I’m truly excited about this opportunity to grow professionally while making a positive impact in the community. I look forward to sharing updates about the work we’re doing and hope to inspire others to join us in the fight against hunger and health inequality.
Feel free to stay tuned throughout my journey! #NewIntern #PublicHealth #FoodSafety
