When you arrive at Baltimore Hunger Project, you will be greeted by a Packing Experience Leader who will check you in for your Packing Experience. Once all volunteers have arrived, we will spend approximately 15 minutes giving an overview of Baltimore Hunger Project, food insecurity, and the services we provide to the students we support. After that, we will move into the warehouse to begin the packing session. Volunteers will line up around a stainless steel table stocked with different food items and pack meal bags in an assembly line format. During a packing session, volunteers pack between 400 and 650 meal bags. Each bag contains 4 cans of protein, 1 box of cereal, 1 juice box, 1 shelf stable milk, 2 granola bars, fruit snacks, apple sauce, disposable silverware, and a note of encouragement. Once we are finished packing, we will restock the tables with food, and we may also spend some time writing notes of encouragement. Before the end of the session, we will debrief, and volunteers will have the opportunity to share what they learned with the group and hear more about other volunteer opportunities at Baltimore Hunger Project.
